Fitting in is overrated

- Creative people don't usually fit in with the crowd. That's because when you create something, you're purposely trying to make things that have not been done before. This will set you apart from others. (upbeat music) Now, that can be uncomfortable. Fitting in, feels safe. It feels normal. If you never stand out, then nobody can reject you. But fitting in is not a creative place. Think of someone you creatively admire, Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Stanley Kubrick, Rita Callow. Now ask yourself what inspires you about that person? I'd guess one reason is that they stood apart from the crowd. They didn't fit in. They were exceptional, innovative, jaw dropping. Maybe even a little crazy. Crazy is okay. Crazy should be taken as a compliment. If you create something new, don't be surprised when a normal person calls you crazy. Creativity is a place where you can truly express yourself.
