- [Educator] Many problems that we face or tasks we must perform just don't have a high payoff for creativity. No one is going to give you points for parking creatively. There are things we do at work like paying invoices or responding to customer support emails, where efficiency is prized, and everyone thinks the steps have already been creatively thought-through and standardized. They'll reject new creative thinking because they've grown accustomed to the system as it works. You should be able to distinguish where creativity is discouraged and understand why because that will play into how to be usefully creative. Sometimes, a just turn the crank attitude is part of a problem. Tedium makes it hard to concentrate, hard to keep your attention on a task. We can demand that people pay close attention to their work, and we have to realize that, as human beings, there's only so much focused attention we can have. There are…
