- It's time to update your profile photo. You know you need a new headshot to look professional, credible and your absolute best. Well, I think you should ditch the traditional headshot and get personal branding portraits instead. Here's why. Traditionally, a headshot is a photo taken from the chest or shoulders up with a focus on the face. Most people associate headshots to the photos actors and models use to book jobs, and they're right. Here are a few of my former headshot as an actress and model. Headshots are usually shot with the shoulders at an angle, the face to the camera with a smile or straight face. The subject is usually looking up, indicating that the camera angle is shooting downward. This is diminutive and can make you appear compliant and submissive.
