- Another type of jargon is industry specific words. It's okay to use these words in places where you know that every reader will be familiar with them. It's not okay to use them in places where you might have a mixed audience. For instance, people in the purchasing department of a large organization might have no clue what they're purchasing for a certain group in the organization. All they know is what specifications it must meet. If your site uses jargon rather than easily understandable terms to describe the product's characteristics, those purchasing people may just move on to the next company. It might be okay to use some industry terms when talking with cardiac surgeons, but not so much when you're creating information for patients who are suffering heart problems. Those individuals need clear descriptions and instructions in order to understand and treat their medical condition.
