Inclusive imagery foundations: Race and gender

- [Instructor] A picture is worth a thousand words. Deciding on which pictures to use for a project is an essential part of the content creator's job. One of the challenges we have to overcome as we seek to choose inclusive imagery is our own implicit biases. We are hardwired to make choices that align with our own beliefs and experiences. For example, if I tell you to picture a family, more than likely you picture a family similar to yours. When our biases are unchecked, the default reflex is to find an image of a family that looks like ours and drop it into our content. It's hard work to push back against this inclination. As I'm creating content, I systematically scan the images I'm considering to see how they support my inclusivity goals. I begin by looking at how inclusive the image is as far as racial and ethnic diversity and gender expression. As I scan for racial and ethnic diversity, I ask myself the following…
