Onboarding is a group effort

- If the goal of onboarding is to bring new hires into your company culture and social norms, then onboarding is a group effort. Engaging others in the process can transform the experience for new hires, upskill current staff as they participate, and build relationships that are crucial for long-term success. So consider which current employees are supporting onboarding and what training they need. Let's start with who. Consider who can contribute to the onboarding process within your various teams. Beyond HR and a direct supervisor or manager, think about which team members can share insights about the company culture. One suggestion is to charge each department or team with developing some of their own onboarding action items the next time a new hire is coming in. Tell them to brainstorm a whole bunch of ideas and then decide which they can actually implement. Keep in mind that no one is ever bonded during a lesson on how to use a workplace printer.
