From the course: Creating a Compelling Video Resume

What is a video resume?

- Video is personal, informative, emotional and dynamic, so it's no wonder people use it to market themselves in every way possible. And that includes job seekers who can use it to promote themselves during the job search process. Video resumes can include information about background, experience, skills, and objectives. They also have the added benefit of showcasing the applicant's personality, which can be especially useful for client-facing roles or jobs requiring excellent communication skills. They're also great for candidates in more visual or creative fields, or who are involved in performance-based work like training, presenting or acting. Video resumes are almost always used to supplement the traditional resume, not to replace it. They're usually optional, and certainly not right for every job or every industry. Some employers don't want you to submit video resumes at all. So it's important that you know when you should and shouldn't make one. We'll talk more about that later in the course. The video resume alone won't get you the job, but if done right it may be able to help you stand out in ways that a traditional resume can't. And if the video is customized it lets you speak directly to the hiring team about why you are uniquely qualified for the job.
