From the course: Corporate Financial Statement Analysis
Comparing financial statements across time
We love numbers. We love financial statements, and we love using them to understand how companies work. Financial reports reveal past performance, current risks, and future opportunities. This course introduces tools to analyze financial statements to uncover a company's strengths and weaknesses. Hi, I'm Jim Stice. I'm an emeritus professor of accounting at BYU, and this is my brother, Kay. I'm also an emeritus professor at BYU. Hey, we're an accounting family. We'll explore corporate financial statement analysis using, for example, Target. In fiscal 2024, Target reported $4 billion in income and $58 billion in assets. Are those big numbers? Well, to find out, we'll analyze relationships among financial data using ratio analysis, comparing across time and across companies. With financial statement analysis, you'll learn to read the numbers and see the story. You know what? Let's get started.
