- One of my favorite ways of dealing with imposterism is to play devil's advocate. If your inner monologue is full of self-doubt and anxiety, go ahead and give it some air time instead of trying to shush it or wish it away. Counter-intuitively by writing it out or saying it out loud, you can actually remove some of the paralyzing power from your deepest fears. I see this most often with the emerging leaders that I coach. They have recurring fears running through their mind as they dare to push past their comfort zone and take their careers to new heights. But when they actually articulate those fears out loud to me in a coaching call, they sometimes laugh at how absurd they sound. So ask yourself this: what is it that I'm really afraid of here? What's my inner monologue saying to me? You might hear fears like this: I'm afraid if I accept this new job, I'll be leaving safety and stability behind. I'm afraid if I say yes…
