Before we dive into the various deployment strategies, let's get clear on the problems that we're trying to solve, and also how we can measure the effectiveness of our implementations. We have changes that need to be made, and the more often we can deploy those changes, the more of a competitive advantage our companies will have over other similar products. But deploying a new version often means service interruptions or degraded performance during the process. The length of those interruptions might be short, but they could be several minutes. Plus, if there's a problem in production that requires a rollback, it can often take a long time. Meanwhile, customers could be having a poor experience with our product and might abandon us. And all that either builds or destroys stakeholder confidence. Remember, we need ever-increasing stakeholder confidence so that we can continue stretching towards continuous delivery.
