Before anybody was talking about CICD or continuous delivery, developers around the world were still developing software and delivering tremendous value. Developers knew it could be better and often tried their hands at automating this or that. But automation was seen as a nice to have. The tooling just wasn't there, neither was the infrastructure. and it was considered something that was just too time-consuming or hard to build to automate deployment systems. Some devs attempted to offer a solution. I was one of those when I created BonBon years ago, but nothing really was mainstream enough to replace that normal way that most developers did things, which was just pressing F5 on the keyboard to send it out to the cloud.
