A lead is someone who has expressed their interest in your business by providing their email to you in exchange for content you provide them. This allows you to continue marketing to them in the hope that soon they'll make a purchase. Sometimes, especially for local businesses, it makes a lot of sense to set up an email list with updates about events, new products, and more. This is an example of a simple email signup from the Hill Center venue in Washington, DC. Once someone signs up, you can send them regular updates that increase the chances of them engaging with your organization. But sometimes you have to get more creative.
