Calculate total length

Calculate total length

- In the last video, I showed you the Pythagorean Theorem that allows us to calculate the length of the third side of a triangle if you know the lengths of the other two sides. Now, for those of you that might still be thinking, "Okay, but when will I need to use this?" Let's look at some examples. There are actually quite few instances where this comes in handy in construction, because we tend to work off of two-dimensional drawings, or blueprints. So when we're looking at the plan view of a roof, if you simply measure the roof from the peak to the edge, you're really measuring the run, not the actual length of that roof. Let's do the math on a couple of examples. On this house, there's a new sewer line that will need to be installed. Looking here at the site plan, I've plotted where that line connects to the house, and where it connects to the main line out in the street. I've also scaled the distance and found…
