Working in the heat
- In construction, we can be exposed to some extreme conditions. One of the conditions that can be really hazardous to a person's health is working in the heat. Heat hazards are often overlooked in construction with people adopting a just tough it out attitude, which can result in heat related illnesses. Taken to the extreme, these heat related illnesses can and do result in fatalities each year on our construction sites. The human body produces its own heat, and under normal circumstances our bodies are able to regulate and control that heat so that our body temperature stays within a safe acceptable range. However, we often don't work under those normal circumstances. Instead, we work outside in the heat of the summer wearing layers of protective clothing and gear that lock that heat in and we're often doing strenuous work.
