- Okay, I said earlier that safety was also impacted by rework and I promised that I would come back to it, so let's do that now. To start, I think I've probably made the statement in every one of my courses here that safety, quality and productivity are inextricably linked. You cannot neglect one without impacting the others. One of the most glaring examples of that can be seen by examining the impact of rework. In its simplest form rework means doing the same thing more than once. So very simply, whatever safety hazards, or risks people were exposed to the first time around they're likely exposed again the second time around, effectively doubling the exposure for that task. But in actuality it often goes much deeper than that. To begin with, rework often means that something has to be removed or torn out before it can be redone. This often involves tools and processes that carry considerably more risk than what was needed…
