Understanding network hardware
- In a previous episode, we explored basic networking concepts. This provided insight into how networking works. So now, we'll cover the devices needed to create the networks and how they work to get the information to where they're needed or intended. First, we'll start with the basics. That would be the cabling. Without the RJ45 cable, there would be no networking. This is what connects our devices together in the network. The current cabling standard really kind of spreads between Cat5, Cat6, and Cat7. Now, there are different versions of these different categories of cable like Cat5e, but the idea here is the same. The only visible difference is really the marking on the casing. Then when you do find out a little bit more of the differences, which are the Cat6 and Cat7 are generally faster, more resistant to interference and can even support two-way communication. While Cat5 cables are a little slower and really can only support one-way communication. So as with anything in…
