- Welcome back. It's CPU Time. We saw the CPU in other internal computer parts in a previous episode, but we want to get to know the brain of the computer a little bit better. CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. In literal terms, that's what it does. It processes. We might refer to that as its thinking. There are two main players in the modern CPU world. Intel and AMD, both make great CPUs. And are in almost every PC compatible computer. Mac computers now have their own processor called the Apple Silicon processor. Side note, Apple actually used to use Intel processors just like PCs. Now that we know what CPU means and who makes 'em. Let's take a closer look at CPUs and what we need to know. The first thing you need to know is that the CPU processes data or information in your computer.
