Overview
- You are watching ITProTV. - All right, welcome to CompTIA Server+ here with Mr. Wes Bryan. That's right, I am your host, Ronnie Wong, and we'll be working on this series together and we are glad that you're joining us. When it comes down to it, I'm actually going to be your host to help ask some of those different questions and also to give some insight into well, Server+ as well. So I've worked with servers for a long time and also of course we'll actually have certifications dealing with Wealth Server Management as well. And I'm actually going to introduce you of course, if you haven't actually met him already. Mr. Wes Bryan. Wes, tell us a little bit about yourself. - Absolutely, you know, well it's a pleasure to have you all here joining us and we hope that you're going to enjoy this course. I've been teaching CompTIA courses now for a decade. I've got a variety of CompTIA certifications, including some vendor specific certifications. It aren't really applicable to this exam, if you will, minus maybe some of the server, Windows server certifications that I have under my belt. Again, I've been teaching CompTIA, you know, I've been teaching A+. That's one of my bread and butters, you know, A+, Net+, and Security+, and decided that I would go ahead and tackle the Server+ too. So I'm looking forward to it. Again, a lot of experience training students. traditional instructor led training as well as what you see in front of you right now, the online training. So I'm looking forward to the experience and I'm also looking forward to the journey that will help you get certified. - All right, now when it comes down to somebody watching this, what are some of the prerequisite skills that they might need to have and what are they, what can we actually expect if we're watching it to get from this course? - Sure, great question Ronnie. Some of the prerequisites for this, and I want to state this when I say this, CompTIA has recommended prerequisites. It is not required that you have these prerequisites, but that means that you're going to have to do some additional study. And what I mean by that is CompTIA recommends that before you tackle the Server+ course, you have the A+ certification, not just one exam, but the A+ certification under your belt. And the reason that being is because that really forms a lot of the vocabulary, if not almost 100%, I'd say about 80% of the vocabulary that you're going to see inside of Server+. There are some things that are specific to enterprise level environments that we're going to tackle that are not in A+ but. Don't fret. If you don't have that A+ background, that's perfectly fine. But I want you to understand that when you take the Server+ course, there's going to be a lot of information that's assumed knowledge. We're not going to go extremely in depth on every topic that really should be bringing to the table as you tackle this course. Now, the other thing that we want you to know is that this course is structured in a way that you can tackle that certification exam. Now I also want you to understand too, that you have to do a certain amount of self-study. I'm not going to give you every potential scenario and every potential topic that you could see on an exam. Remember that CompTIA exams do require a level of dedication on your part and some study on your part as well. So that's one of the things to keep in mind that, what's in it for you? Well, we want to get you certified with that Server+ SKO-005 exam. - Yeah, when it comes down to it, what about the certification details? What can we learn from there? - Well, sure, you know, Ronnie, I figure we want you to go right to the source. So I have CompTIA Server+ certification up you can see right here. And I would encourage you that if any of you viewers or maybe tackling other CompTIA exams, that you also use the certification website on CompTIA's main page here to find out some of the attributes of the Server+ certification or any certification really that you're taking. And one of the things that you could see they talk about is that the Server+ certifications, the only one that ensures that an IT professional at the administrative level can do the jobs that they need to perform inside of environment given a scenario. And that's what we hope to tackle here. Now, Ronnie specifically mentioned some of the exam details and let's go ahead and let's provide some answers to that. One of the great things is this is just a long page. You could scroll down or you could just hit exam details and it'll do it for you. A nice little feature. Now, I do want you to understand that what we are currently teaching here is the SKO-005. All right? If you are currently studying for the SK 00, and I don't know if it's been retired, oh, this is going to retire this, the former objectives are going to retire January 7th, 2022. We're here at the end of 2021. So for those of you that are maybe studying those objectives and maybe aren't going to take that certification exam in time, that's okay. About 80% of what you see here is going to be relevant to that earlier exam. It's up to you to backfill the deltas, the differences of variations. In here, you can see that we are going to have a 90 question test. It's going to be multiple choice and performance based usually, typically is multiple choice, if you will, multiple answer. You could see drag and drops potentially. They could put you in scenarios where you have to pick a series of characteristics and components to meet the requirements to the scenario that's given to you. So that's some of the performance level that they talk about. Could be a diagram, it could be something where they set you up with a network diagram and they ask you to implement the appropriate component. So understand that it's not going to just be an information dump when it comes to the exam. There are going to be things that they require you to do to perform, to perform these tasks so that you can validate that you do have the skills. All right, you're going to see here it does say CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent knowledge and two years of hands-on experience working with a server. Now, I get a lot of questions with these prerequisite, the prerequisites. If I do not have these, can I take the Server+ exam? You absolutely can, but if you don't have that experience, you're going to have to fill it with study. And that's why we want you to be prepared for the amount of level. The level of study that you have to do for this exam is really based on what you bring to the table when you start this course. We're not worried about the retirements, but your testing providers, well, it's really going to be Pearson VUE and there's a couple of different ways that you can do that. And we are at the end of 2021 and some of you realize that we are still in a pandemic. You do have brick and mortar testing centers, the availability on those is always subject to change. So I would tell you to go over to Pearson VUE's website if you need to find a brick and mortar location to test on site. However, Pearson VUE also has what's known as their OnVUE testing exam. And that is what is not mentioned here. Even though it says online testing, it's called the Pearson OnVUE, Pearson VUE, OnVUE testing and allows you to take it from an isolated location over the internet so that if you can't get to a brick and mortar location, you can still test, you can get certified, pass this certification and for, you know, move forward in your career. We're talking about US dollars, right? We are all over the world, so just convert the currency into whatever your local currency is. But you can see currently at the time the recording of this course, we are looking at $338 to take that exam. Ronnie, there are some of your details for this exam and some of the things that our viewers can expect. - Alright, so when it comes down to what you and I are be going, going to be going over, what makes you excited about this course? - Oh man, you know, I am a hardware person. I like hardware, I like breaking hardware, I like repairing, diagnosing hardware. I like all of that, right? I'm a hardware guy. It's one of the reasons I love teaching the A+. This is A+ for your servers and your enterprise level environments and that's great. It's the next, maybe the next step to help get you into that job that you dream of. And that's one of the things that I'm so excited that Ronnie and I get to spend time with you and help you to advance your career. - Alright, well you heard it from Mr. Wes Bryan himself. He is excited to get started with CompTIA Server+, and we're glad that you are as well. And that means that all you have to do is click one more time and you'll start the series. - Thank you for watching IT ProTV.
