OECD standards

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, or OECD, is an intergovernmental forum of 38 countries that publish research and policy guidance on economic and social issues. Back in 2019, its member states unanimously adopted a recommendation on artificial intelligence that served as the world's first intergovernmental agreement on AI. This recommendation is not a treaty, so it does not create legal obligations, but it expresses a common policy baseline that was later endorsed by the major industrialized nations. The text sets five high-level principles. Inclusive growth, sustainable development, and well-being. Human rights and democratic values, including fairness and privacy. Transparency and explainability. Robustness, security, and safety. And accountability. It also lists five concrete recommendations for policymakers.
