- I've got a couple of wireless access points here in front of me, but I want you to look at these really, really closely. First of all, take a look at this guy right here. Now, as a wireless access point should have, it's got an RJ-45 connector, and you'll also see that it has a power attachment so I can plug an AC adapter into this guy. Well, that's fantastic, but I want you to now look at this guy that I've got right here in front of me now. Notice that this fella doesn't have an AC adapter connection. This fella right here doesn't need, in fact, can't use, an AC adapter. But you would say, "Well, Mike, it needs electricity." (chuckling) And it most certainly does. It's taking advantage of an 802.3 standard called Power over Ethernet. When you have a number of devices and you're putting them up on walls and everything, it's a real hassle to have to come up with a way to get an electrical cord up there so that you can power these things.
