- Cloud services use virtualization to maximize the use of their systems by using the same physical machines to support multiple subscribers, or what is called multitenancy. This is the ability to support multiple customers on the same device, service, or infrastructure concurrently. But like all things, it has its pluses and its minuses. One of the best benefits of cloud computing is a subscriber only pays for what they need to use. A company that needs only a small server pays for a much lower fee than one that needs a much larger resource. So the downside to multitenancy, which is primarily just a concern, is that subscribers are sharing resources on one or more physical machines. As more subscribers access the shared system, there could be a chance of cross-access or a shortage of resources slowing things down.
