Unlike availability failures, performance issues are often subtle, intermittent, and cumulative. Systems may be technically up, yet users experience slowness, timeouts, or degraded responsiveness. Diagnosing these issues requires understanding how Linux schedules resources and how bottlenecks emerge across CPU, memory, disk IO, and networking. For the exam, performance troubleshooting emphasizes analysis over tuning. You're not expected to permanently optimize kernels or rewrite applications. Instead, you are asked to identify which system resource is constrained and select the correct tool to confirm that hypothesis. exam questions often describe symptoms such as high load, sluggish applications, slow logins or unresponsive services.
