Understanding virtualization
- One of the key technologies that is used within the cloud and in many on-premises installations, whether you're using cloud technologies on-premises or just the traditional technology, is virtualization. Virtualization is the key to being able to do what we do in the cloud, and we're going to talk about that in this episode. Now, the first thing that we want to look at is what virtualization really is. We can define virtualization as the abstraction of physical hardware into logical hardware layers, allowing for the execution of multiple virtual or in-memory instances of computing resources. In other words, what we're doing is we're hiding the hardware from our operating systems or applications. Depending on whether we're doing traditional virtualization or modern containerization, which are two different technologies that allow for portability of operating systems or applications respectively to various different systems.…
