Designing for migration
- The next thing we need to think about in design is migration. So sometimes you're designing a new system, sometimes you are designing the migration of your current on-premises systems to the cloud, and we need to understand that process. To begin with, we think about migration types. The most common by far still today is on premises to cloud. We already have a system on premises, we need to get that system into the cloud, either fully or partially. But the reality is we do sometimes do cloud to on premises. We decide to go the other direction. There are organizations that have gone all in on the cloud and then went all out and left the cloud. The cloud's not the best thing for every environment and every situation, and so some have decided to go back to on-premises, some have gone partially on-premises.
