- Now that we've talked about some general concepts related to cloud native design and cloud migration, let's get into designing specific kinds of cloud resources. The first one we'll look at is compute. Our focus here is on the requirements that we need to specify for our cloud resources. So you're going to use compute, but how much compute do you need? You're going to use storage, but how much storage do you need? That's your requirements. Of course, a big part of compute is the CPU. You need to know the speed of the CPU and the number of cores and whether or not you're going to need GPUs. GPU use significantly increases the cost of compute instances in the cloud, but for some things, it's needed. If you want to run a large language model, maybe an open source model using Llama in the cloud, then you need GPU to really do that effectively. And then there's the memory.
