- Configuring email on your smart device is one of two things. It's either so trivially easy, that it's almost laughable or it can be a real nightmare. Now, what I want to talk about here is how we go through the process of configuring email. The important thing I want to stress though, is that when it comes to setting up email, that means you're setting up an account. So let's remember what we know about email from other episodes. Number one, we can have two different protocols for incoming email. It will either be POP3 or IMAP, and then we have an outgoing protocol, which is SMTP. Always remember that POP3 and IMAP are incoming, and SMTP is outgoing because a lot of the setups will literally say incoming or outgoing, and you just need to know what they're talking about.
