- All right, before we get into this episode there are three things that we need to define and that is the distinctions between services, processes, and users, oh my. So first of all, services are, you know, applications or things that are started by the operating system to perform critical background tasks as needed. So basically we consider services the things that your operating system really needs to run in the background. Processes, on the other hand, are things that you or I start up, right? So if I started up Microsoft Word for instance that would be a user run app or process. And users, are you, me, them, everybody, right? Anybody with an individual account with access to either a specific file, folder, or log on or application, we consider a user.
