The power supply

- The power supply unit, or PSU, is one of the more important components of a PC. However, because there are so many characteristics and capabilities on the various types of PSUs, it can be difficult to understand each of the different kinds of units available. This includes form factors, connectors, and quality ratings among others. What a power supply unit does is quite simple. It provides direct current, DC electricity, to a PC system components that is converted from alternating current, AC electricity. AC power is what is supplied by electrical outlets virtually everywhere. A PC is powered by DC electricity. The primary advantage DC power has over AC power is constant voltage levels, which is something that AC power can't do. So, a PSU is needed to provide the conversion from AC power to DC power.
