- [Instructor] Tableau makes it really easy to create new locations and to map any kind of geographic data. The only thing that we need to provide to Tableau is either a name of locations that it already knows about, but we can map any data as long as we have the latitude, the longitude, and a unique identifier for each row that we want to plot on the map. So let's take an example of some stores in the LA region. We're going to create a map and plot all of those stores on there, and then we're going to see how we can use Tableau's own inbuilt mapping capability to locate a new store, add it to our dataset, and then map it. So first, let's go ahead and build our starter map. So for that we're going to connect to an Excel sheet, which is called LA Stores. So I'm going to open that. And it's very simplified, it's got 30 rows. We have the name of the stores, we have the latitude and longitude of the destination, and we have an origin latitude and longitude as well.
