2.1 The history of AI and model architectures
- In this section, we're going to talk about monolithic and compound AI models, and we're going to start with the history of AI and what those model architectures look like. What's amazing about these past year and a half is that we've come into a new era of AI. And if we look back in history, artificial intelligence or the term AI has been around since the fifties, and computer scientists came up with this idea of a computer giving the intelligence, just as if it were a human being. And we've seen that now in this past couple of years, come together with generative AI. In between, though, we had that data science piece with machine learning, with deep learning then expanding on that, and we've come into this generative AI or this natural language processing, natural language, conversational AI that is really changing the game across the board.
