You use this technique with second order differential equations in the previous chapter, and it is generally the same process when dealing with the higher order version of these types of equations. Let's review the undetermined coefficients technique. The undetermined coefficients method is when you make an educated guess on what a particular solution may be to a differential equation and then you solve for the corresponding unknown coefficient values. This gets you the particular solution to add to your general solution to gather your final general solution to your higher-order nonhomogeneous differential equation. Note that you can technically use this method without finding the general solution first, but generally it is easier if you find that general solution before you proceed.
