Explain context to reduce ambiguity

Context matters. When we don't have background information, we often end up in situations where we've approached a task inefficiently or rushed something that wasn't really urgent. High-performing teams take the time to clarify the context of their work because when people understand context, they make better decisions. Here are some tips to reduce ambiguity. My first tip is to explain why. Whether you're assigning the task or receiving an assignment, you need to be clear on why this work is important. What is the purpose of the work you're doing? And is this part of a larger strategy? How does it fit into the larger strategy? Does this deadline impact another team's work deadlines? We make better decisions when we understand why something is important and where it fits into the bigger picture. My next tip is to clarify priorities.
