Have you ever been in a meeting when a topic comes up and no one claims responsibility? It reminds me of the childhood game, not it. This is the exact opposite of what we want on a high-performing team. Clear expectations and an understanding of roles helps your team maximize its potential. A RACI matrix can help. Simply put, a RACI matrix spells out different levels of communication and accountability within a team, starting with the R, responsible. Who is the owner or responsible party for this particular task? Put another way, who is the person who's doing this work? The A is accountable. Who is ultimately accountable for the work, or who signs off on it? Usually the A is only one person, but the other letters can have multiple people listed. C is consulted. Who on the team needs to provide input or has the expertise we should leverage? And I is informed. Who needs to be updated on our overall progress?
