This will be a very short lesson, I'm sure we're all familiar with the importance of hardening and patching those operating systems, but technically this is the process of baselining and it involves configuration of the IT environment to conform to consistent standards, consistent For example, password security and disabling non-essential services and non-used ports. Hardening also involves the identification of what represents normal or typical behavior on a network or a system so that malicious behavior or other anomalies can be more easily recognized should it happen during the baselining process.
