- Public clouds are the most popular way that we consume cloud technology. This means that we're leveraging public services that are stood up and maintained by a public cloud provider. Some of the bigger ones include AWS, Microsoft, Google, Oracle, IBM, and Alibaba. They tend to be much larger companies considering the resources required to get a public cloud going and keep it going. They are just that a collection of servers running within a number of data centers existing worldwide. You leverage these services without knowing the exact physical server you're using, and indeed, they may share your processing and storage workload across many different servers that are also shared with many other people and companies.
