- So, if cloud cost accounting shows what's occurring in cloud spending and observability provides the reasons for changes in cloud costs, cloud cost governance allows us to put limitations or restrictions on cloud cost spending. Again, this is a feature of Cloud FinOps. Cloud cost governance allows us to create policies that put rules around spending limits. Examples of these policies would be: "Don't allow cloud spending for the inventory system to surpass $10,000 a month." "Warn those reaching a $200 threshold for cloud storage that they will have that cost removed from next year's budget." "Restrict the use of year-end cloud processing to lower cost processing systems on the cloud." As you can see, these are annoying messages you get when your mailbox exceeds its allotted limit or when your mobile data is about to be throttled back because you've exceeded your usage limits.
