- We've covered how to align the cyber needs with the motivations of the CFO in great detail, and CFOs love the details. In this section, we will address the mindset that needs to be shifted for CFO to start seeing cyber risk as a needed investment, instead of just additional figures to the cost and budget. There has been an intentional shift in recent years to focus the needs of cybersecurity on the return on value, ROV, or return on objective, ROO. Think about it from the perspective of a nation's defense strategy. Billions are pumped into military strategies and advanced artillery warfare equipment in a bid to be prepared to fight a war and save as many lives as possible, if it ever comes to it.
