- [Instructor] I used to work for a university where we had lots of standalone servers. Maybe one was Microsoft Windows, maybe one was Linux. Maybe we had something like Oracle Solaris and these servers were made available to different departments within the university. Unfortunately, when I noticed the utilization of these servers, it was very, very low. We paid for a lot of hardware and capacity that was just not being used. It would've been great if back in those days we could do something that we could do today and that is virtualizing those servers. We could get a single high capacity server maybe with multiple connections out to the network and we could run each of those traditional servers as a VM, as a virtual machine within that physical server.
