- [Instructor] In our previous lesson, we talked about the shared security responsibility between customers and service providers depending on the different cloud service models and use. We also need to understand who is responsible for patch management in each of these cases. Patch management, very simply, is the process of applying software updates. These are often necessary to fix any vulnerabilities or bugs in the software, but also can include general improvements, as well. This is important for a number of obvious reasons, such as security and functionality improvements, but it's also important for compliance reasons. Depending on your industry, you might fall under the guidelines of certain regulatory compliance models, such as HIPAA. Proper patch management is a necessary way to ensure that you fall under the compliance standards. With SaaS solutions, we once again see customer responsibilities at a minimum.
