- In this video, I'm going to share my story and explain why I believe there are many benefits to getting a certification. And lucky for all of you, I'm going to have my camera on for this. In my last two decades of IT work, I've really grown to appreciate what a certification can do for you as, say, an individual contributor, or for your team, or what it says to potential employers. All of my networking knowledge is self-taught, and, believe it or not, Cisco certifications taught me how to be a network engineer. I went from a systems engineer straight out of a technical college to designing and managing ISPs worldwide for folks in the, you know, public sector, private sector, and even government. Now, as an individual contributor, Cisco certification can give you the tools to find a new career or simply expand your skills in an existing one.
