What is motion tracking?
- [Instructor] What is motion tracking and why is it important? Whenever you want to place computer generated graphics into a live action sequence, you'll need to live motion track the footage. It is usually the first protocol for any visual effect shot and as such, is vitally important to creating a convincing composite. Motion tracking is simply about figuring out where the camera was and how it was moving when the shot was filmed. That's why it's often referred as match moving and also camera tracking. And throughout this course, I'll be exchanging those terms. So what are we aiming to match? Well, we want to know the camera's position, orientation, and focal length. And we want to know the scale of the scene. Once you know how the real camera was moving, you can create a 3D representation of that camera.
