- [Scott] When my system is booted up, I can log in at the login screen using the credentials I created during the installation process. Once I do, I find myself at the Genome desktop. Let's take a brief look around. Up here in the top left, there's the Activities menu and I can click that to open up the dashboard view. If I had applications open, I'd see their windows here in the middle. And over here on the left, I have a dock where I can pin icons for programs that I want quick access to. On the right side of the interface, I can switch between virtual desktops if I have more than one. And up here at the top, I can search for programs and things on my system. If you don't know the name of a program, you can click this grid of three dots here in the dock on the left and see the programs that this desktop environment has installed.
