- [Instructor] Linux Mint is a distribution based on Debian and Ubuntu, which is designed to be easy to use out of the box and friendly for both new users and Linux pros. A focus of Linux Mint is multimedia compatibility. That is the ability to play many common media types without having to track down additional software. While most Distros require you to install support for some media types, Mint provides a bundle of popular media support software all in one place. Mint also includes many productivity tools and other software already installed, making getting started using it very easy. Like Debian and Ubuntu, Mint uses systemd to manage the system and use this APT to interact with packages. It uses network manager to control network settings and provides the Bash shell.
