- [Narrator] Arch Linux is a Linux distribution that tries to keep it simple. A defining characteristic of Arch is that it makes very few assumptions about how you want your system configured. While some decisions need to be made by the distro maintainers, most distributions are very opinionated about almost all aspects of the system's configuration. And, in contrast, Arch starts from a fairly neutral place. This means that to get it installed, we need to make certain decisions. This can make the installation process pretty confusing and difficult for new Linux users, but it's very valuable to Linux enthusiasts and people who like to have control over many important ways their system functions. Decisions that are made by the maintainers include the fact that Arch is a rolling-release distro, meaning that software, including the kernel, can be updated as it's available.
