Using volume reclaim policies

Using volume reclaim policies

- So in this lesson, we are going to talk about volume reclaim policy. What is that? Well, volume reclaim policy is a property that you can set on a PV and it determines what happens if the PV is no longer bound to a PVC. The default value is Retain. It ensures that the volume will be left in its current phase when it is released, such that it can manually be reclaimed by an administrator. You don't want your data to be automatically wiped, that's the idea. If you do want it, and you might want to do that for security reasons, you can set the reclaim policy to delete, and delete means that the PV will be deleted once it is released. There's also the recycle option, which means that the PV will recycle back into the pool of unused PVs. And that means that the next PVC that issues a claim that matches this PV, might be bound to this PV, and that can lead to surprises, because it can mean that your port suddenly is getting access to data that was created by another port.
