- [Narrator] Windows updates are a necessary part of Windows and Microsoft has been releasing them since 2005. Updates keep the operating system running smoothly and add new features. They also keep your device secure among other things. Microsoft schedules the release of security updates on what's known as Patch Tuesday. This is the second Tuesday of each month and happens around 10:00 AM Pacific Standard Time. You can open Windows updates from start and settings and by clicking Windows update at the bottom of the list. You may see something like this that updates have already been downloaded and installed and you're ready to restart. You may see that there are no new updates or you may see that you need some. Whatever the case, that's not what we're after, here. We're looking for the delivery optimization features.
