Lean concepts and tools have been incorporated into Six Sigma. That's why it's also called Lean Six Sigma. For the exam, you should know the lean concepts I'm about to cover. Types of Waste. Taiichi Ono identified seven types of waste, and eight was added in the past two decades. So the acronym is TIMWOODS instead of just TIMWOOD. T for Transport, that's movement of people, materials, products or documents. I for Inventory, which could be just-in-case or unnecessary inventory. M for Motion, movement within an activity that does not add value. W for Waiting, time wasted between activities, waiting for required parts, materials, people or information. O for overproduction, producing more than what's needed. O for overprocessing, inappropriate excessive processing and unnecessary duplication of work that adds no value.
