The concept was born in 2008 and while it's still a relatively new way for nonprofits to raise resources, crowdfunding is popular, so much so that one in five U.S. adults have participated in such a campaign. There are a few reasons for this. Crowdfunding is goal-oriented, fast-paced, and engaging. It offers donors the chance to be part of something bigger than themselves, no matter the size of their donations. Donors can track progress online, share sites with their social networks, and are close to the action. So just how does crowdfunding work?
