- A crucial step to help your donors avoid frustration is by asking, "What do you want to avoid by giving?" Now, it's important to note that some people react better to questions about what success looks like to them, while others share more information about what they want to avoid. These questions tend to be less expected and maybe an unusual perspective for a donor. However, there's something pragmatic and thoughtful about asking a donor this question that they tend to appreciate. Here are a few questions I like to ask donors to avoid frustration. When you think of organizations you support, what do you want those groups to fix or resolve? What do you fear might happen if this issue is not resolved? Why is that important to you?
