Manual installation options

- [Instructor] I'm going to perform a demonstration of an installation of Windows Server 2025, and I'm going to use the desktop experience so it shows us all the different graphical user interfaces that we're used to. There's also a way to install it to just show a command prompt or PowerShell cmdlet way of entering various different commands. But in this case, we're just going to go ahead and use the graphical user interface, which is what most of us will do. So here is our Windows Server setup for Windows Server 2025. Now, this is going to be the manual way of doing installation. It's most appropriate if you're just going to do a single install. So if you're going to do multiple installations that are all going to have similar settings, then you can set up what's called an answer file that will automatically set up things for you without having to go through each setting one at a time. So I'll click next. I do want to install Windows Server, and I agree to all the different options and settings. And now I'm going to enter my product key. And here's the options that we have for this particular bootable ISO file. Or in some cases, you're going to be using a bootable DVD. So we have the Windows Server 2025 Standard and Datacenter. The biggest difference between the two is that Standard comes with two free Hyper-V virtual machines, whereas Datacenter comes with an unlimited amount of included virtual machines. So I want to choose the desktop experience, otherwise I won't see that graphical interface, I'll just see a command prompt or you could also use it for PowerShell as well. So I'm going to choose the Standard version, Desktop Experience and click Next. I'll accept license terms, and it found my hard drive, which is great. I'll click Next. If it doesn't find your hard drive at this point, it's possible that you have a particular rate controller that doesn't have the drivers built into the Windows DVD or ISO file. So if that happens, then you'll have to load those drivers here at this point in order to be able to see it. And you would click this load driver option that you see here. It's the same as with older versions where you would click F6, and that would bring up the prompt to load the drivers. And now it's ready to install. I'll click the install button. Installation can take anywhere from 10 minutes up to over an hour, just depending on how many resources your server has and how fast the processor is. Notice that during the installation it says that your computer's going to restart several times. This happens towards the end of the installation. It's going to pop up with a bunch of different command prompts that are going to run various different scripts, and then the server will restart. And finally, it will get to a point where it will prompt you for a password. You'll enter the password twice and that will be the password for the administrator to the local computer. So Active Directory at this point will not have been created, and you can go ahead and create Active Directory or join the server to a domain that already exists at that point. I'm now being prompted to put in the password after the installation. So you have to have at least seven characters, at least one upper and lowercase character, and at least one number or special character. I'll click finish and we can now log in with the administrator credentials. When automated options are not possible or you just need to do a quick install of a single server, manual installation may be the most efficient type of install for you.
